Asian Women Directors is a living archive of Asian women directors and their feature films. It aims to be an interactive space where anyone can search, explore, and discover their work through curated categories.

The collection currently features women directors from East Asia, Southeast Asia, and South Asia, as well as directors of Asian heritage across the diaspora. Rather than aiming to be exhaustive, it is a curated selection that continues to grow.

Directors and films are selected through research drawing on sources such as Wikipedia and online articles. Film and director details come from The Movie Database (TMDB) via its API. Thematic categories such as topics and moods, along with the notes on each film’s cinematic and social significance, were developed with the assistance of AI tools under direct human direction and review.

This site is designed and built by Jiwon Jun, a designer, researcher, and educator born in Korea and based in the San Francisco Bay Area. It is an independent project that grew out of her interest in learning more about Asian women directors, and a passion to make that information more accessible and easier for others to explore.
